Wondering where and what to eat in Munich? If you’re planning a trip to the capital of Bavaria, you had better pack your stretchy pants and be prepared to eat a lot of food! From traditional Bavarian food to hipster coffee shops and vegan restaurants, Munich truly has it all! We spent a week exploring its diverse restaurant scene. Here’s a list of our favorite Munich restaurants and cafes.

Supernova bar & trattoria

In the mood for Italian? Check out Supernova Bar & Trattoria, a trendy Italian restaurant with a stylish retro-inspired interior and pleasant ambiance. Get their handmade pasta and burrata – so good – and try one of their beautifully crafted cocktails! This place is perfect for a quick solo lunch or an evening get-together with friends.

Restaurant Pfistermühle is located at the Platzl Hotel in the restored building of the former ducal flour mill from 1573. It’s a cozy place with fine Bavarian cuisine. The food, wine, presentation, and service were outstanding. It was definitely one of the best meals we had in Munich and a very pleasant dining experience that’s worth the price.

Cafe Morso is a lovely casual spot for breakfast or lunch that serves sandwiches, lots of baked goods, and delicious coffee. If the weather is pleasant, their outdoor seating area is a nice spot for people watching.

Caspar Plautz

If you’re a potato lover, you won’t regret stopping by Caspar Plautz, a potato stand in Munich’s Viktualienmarkt. Not only do they sell over 25 varieties of raw potatoes, but they also serve some exceptional potato dishes.

Sweet Spot Kaffee

Sweet Spot Kaffee is a specialty coffee shop in the center of Munich. It’s quite small inside but has a few tables and chairs outside which are perfect for people watching. Their coffee and pastries are great!

Xaver’s

Rumfordstraße 35, 80469 München, Germany

Xavier’s is a trendy restaurant/beer garden with a traditional interior and bavarian food served with a modern twist. This place is popular among both the locals and tourists. It’s always buzzing! We loved their Weiner schnitzel and Spätzle. They also offer quite a few vegetarian and vegan options. We ended up dining there twice, because it was so good!

Brenner opengrill

Brenner Opengrill is a contemporary restaurant serving Italian cuisine. The dining room is located in a beautiful pillared chamber with a big open grill in the middle of it. The restaurant is open all day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

schwarzreiter tagesbar & restaurant

Maximilianstraße 17, 80539 München, Germany

Located in Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten Kempinski München, the Schwarzreiter is one of Munich’s classic fine dining restaurants serving “young Bavarian cuisine.” The relaxed atmosphere and ambiance, food presentation, and attentive service make it quite a special place. Dining there is a gastronomic treat!

Spatenhaus at the Opera is a traditional Bavarian restaurant located right across from the Bavarian State Opera in Munich. The first floor of the restaurant is casual and rustic. The second has a more formal and elegant-looking dining room. They serve one of the best Wiener schnitzels in the city as well as other great Bavarian dishes and beers. When you make a reservation, make sure to request one of the window seats with a view of the opera house.

Man Versus Machine is a specialty independent coffee roaster. There are two locations in Munich, and they serve the best coffee in town. Here you can purchase their fresh-roasted beans, a great souvenir for yourself or a coffee-loving friend. If you’re into specialty coffee, Men Versus Machine in Munich is a must-visit!

prinz myshkin

Prinz Myshkin is an upscale vegetarian restaurant in central Munich. Their menu is large and includes a few vegan options as well. The food is prepared from the freshest ingredients. Also, the service is fast and friendly in the restaurant’s bright and airy interior. We came here for lunch, and after eating heavy Bavarian food for a few days straight it was nice to have some lighter vegetarian fare.
