Airbnb in Upstate New York: Weekend Getaway at Warner’s Camp

The past year has definitely been the year of Airbnbs! We’ve always been huge fans of renting vacation homes or apartments wherever we go. But during the pandemic, Airbnb truly saved us from going crazy, allowing us to get out of the house and explore in a safe way. A few months ago my friends and I decided to take a spontaneous “Friendsgiving” road trip and spend a few days at Warner’s Camp, a charming Airbnb in Upstate New York.

The Location

Warner’s Camp is an 1800s guesthouse located in the Adirondacks High Peaks area, just 25 minutes from Lake Placid, 10 minutes from Whiteface Ski Resort, and 5 minutes from Keene.

The cabin sits on a riverbank—literally just steps away from it! Needless to say, the location couldn’t be more perfect. You can hear and see the river from almost anywhere in the house. One of my favorite spots in the house was the screened-in porch overlooking the river. I could sit there for hours taking in the beautiful scenery.

Warner’s Camp was recently renovated but has still kept its old-home charm. The oldest and coziest part of the house is the living room. It features original exposed beams from the 1800s and a wood-burning stove. Here you’ll find a comfortable couch, writing desk, TV with ROKU, a record player, and a lovely record collection.

There are 3 bedrooms: the master bedroom upstairs with a king-size bed, the second master bedroom downstairs with a queen-size bed, and another one with a double bed and a twin trundle. With a few extra sleeping spots in the sunroom, the alcove, and the living room, the house sleeps up to 12 people—perfect for a getaway with a group of friends or family!

The kitchen and dining room comprise the newer part of the house that was added around 50 years ago. Besides being gorgeous, the kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make the epic “Friendsgiving” meal that we then enjoyed in the dining room, looking through huge windows to the river. It was such a special evening, and I’m glad I got to share it with some of my dear friends.

Warner’s Camp has 2 bathrooms—one downstairs with an antique clawfoot tub and another upstairs with a rustic galvanized bucket shower.

One of the biggest advantages of this cabin is the outdoor space surrounding it. There are two porches, a picnic table, a fire pit with chairs and twinkle lights, a hammock suspended over the water, and a barrel sauna!

Things to do in the area

You could easily spend all your time just hanging out at Warner’s Camp. But if you decide to go out and explore the area, you’ll find plenty of fun things to do nearby.

  • Hiking—a great activity to do year-round. There are numerous hiking trails near Warner’s Camp, all within a 5-10 minute drive.
  • Swimming and tubing—an activity for the warmer months. You can swim in the river at Warner’s Camp (they have a private swimming hole), or check out Wilmington Flume Falls and Jay Covered Bridge Swimming Hole.
  • Skiing, snowboarding and snowshoeing, and other winter activities. Whiteface Ski Resort offers great slopes, knowledgeable experts, and plenty of food and drink options.
  • Visiting Olympic sites. Lake Placid (25 minutes away from the Airbnb) was home to both the 1932 and the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. You can watch a hockey game at the Olympic Center, ice skate on the Olympic Skating Oval, or just take a stroll down Main Street, Lake Placid, which is lined with cute shops and cafes.
  • Eat out. Visit Keene, Upper Jay, and Lake Placid to check out the local restaurants, cafes, and bars. There are options for everyone! Unfortunately, we visited during the pandemic and tried to stay away from people, but next time we’re definitely hitting all the cool local hangout spots.

We have Warner’s Camp to thank for some great memories, and would definitely stay there again. This Airbnb in Upstate New York is a great spot for anyone looking to spend a few days in Upstate New York. We truly felt at home at Warner’s Camp and hope you will too!
